Exegesis is a $64 seminary word that simply means letting the text of scripture tell you what it means, instead of trying to impose an external meaning on the text. Exegesis means "to read OUT of the text" while it's opposite (a practice too many people do) "Eisagesis" means "reading INTO the text." Good interpretation of scripture is always based on exegesis while eisegesis always leads to bad interpretation.
